Your avatar now works across Gear VR and the Oculus Rift, providing a consistent virtual identity for all your headset shenanigans. There are already 700 apps available for Gear VR, and Oculus says the new headset will launch with two dozen controller-optimized titles with another 50 or so in development. That trigger alone will boost the Gear VR experience immensely, adding gunplay, laser pointers, and logical input for games and other experiences. The whole package, headset and controller, will cost $130. It's the first model with a handheld controller, powered by a pair of AAA batteries and equipped with motion sensors, a touchpad, and a trigger button. When the new S8 devices ship on April 21, a new version of the Gear VR headset will ship too.
#SAMSUNG GEAR OCULUS APP UPDATE#
With new Galaxy phones coming out, Oculus figured the time was right to update its own piece of the VR experience.

And while that VR ecosystem depends on Samsung hardware for the brains and screens, it’s the Oculus app that delivers the face-computing magic. They're also the cornerstones of the excellent Gear VR platform. I don't have a userprofile.json file in this location.Samsung's new Galaxy S8 smartphones aren't just phones. W/UserProfile(17807): Failed to load user profile "/sdcard/Oculus/userprofile.json". Turned on the logs, reproduced the error, and this warning seems to be the most relevant bit: I did some more troubleshooting and downloaded CatLog logcat viewer off the store. I can get the exact text of the error in a little while, but a screenshot might be difficult. This error is on a blue surface where you'd normally get your Oculus Home menu options. But the Login Required issue remains (though now that the rendering is fixed the screen comes in clear.) Basically, right after the initial load, before I get the welcome screen, I get an error saying "Login Required" and I need to take the phone out of the headset and login with the Oculus app. I ended up fixing the rendering and headtracking by installing the AEL kernel. In troubleshooting this and uninstalling/wiping data and reinstalling, this issue presented itself (before I fixed the original problem). Initially, after flashing the ROM and restoring apps from backup, I had issues with the rendering not doing the necessary distortion for the headset lenses and absolutely no headtracking. Thought I'd try a custom ROM (that google results said people were using with Gear VR) to help battery life as well. I was running Lollipop but decided to back down to KitKat due to the performance issues. The app works fine independently of the Gear VR.Ĭustom KitKat ROM (FireKat) with AEL kernel I can't screen shot it because the error occurs within the VR Gear when it's hooked in. I think what caused my issue was deleted and reinstalling the app. What did you do before you got that error? Did you delete the app and when you reinstalled it did the error start coming up? That's the situation that happened to me.Ĭybereality: I am running Lollipop on a S6 running on AT&T(USA) network. I can try and duplicate the problem again tonight and see what steps fixed it. So i was puzzled to find it working again in the AM with no real reason.

I did try it the night before after I reinstalled and it wasn't working. Now that night I still got that error but in the morning when I started it to begin troubleshooting it was fixed. After that I opened the app and signed in.

Hooked it into the Gear VR to download the app. turned off my phone for a minute and then powered it back on. Vermadas: Did you delete the app again and reinstall? I am not sure if it will work but what I did wasįirst uninstall Oculus again.
